How do you distribute e-book readers to the military?
Once we purchase and/or acquire Kindles via fund-raising and other donations, we distribute them to sponsored military units that are deployed overseas. We require our Kindle donations to be shared within the sponsored unit and require the Commanding Officer’s written agreement via e-mail stating the gifts will be shared within the unit and become inventory of the unit and listed in the unit property books.
Do you work with all branches of the armed forces?
Yes all branches of the armed forces (Army, Air Force, Navy, Marines, and U.S. Coast Guard) are eligible for our program.
I’m an individual solider, and I’d like to get an e-reader. What do I do?
Our distribution model is based on working with a sponsored unit, such as a company or battalion, and then coordinating with that unit’s leadership to distribute our donated e-readers to their teams. We do not donate e-readers to specific individuals.
If you would like to request your unit to be sponsored for our program, we need some information about you and your unit. You can submit this information to us through our Unit Sponsorship Form. Once we receive this information, we will review your application and contact you with next steps. Requesting sponsorship is not a guarantee that we will be able to donate e-readers to your unit, but it is the first step in the process.
How do you decide which units you will sponsor?
We donate e-readers to sponsored units primarily based on the order we receive the requests, but we also consider the leadership’s involvement in the program, the time remaining in the deployment, and any unique circumstances and/or needs of the unit.
Does every dollar of my donation go to buying e-books and/or e-book readers for the military units you are sponsoring?
The majority of your donation goes directly to purchasing e-book readers, gift cards, and / or related accessories for our troops. No one involved with E-Books for Troops takes salary or other compensation for our work. It is completely voluntary, and we operate as lean as possible. We use a percentage of the donations to pay for administrative fees to run the non-profit such as domain ownership, PayPal processing fees, required legal filings, etc.
Why does E-Books for Troops only distribute Kindles?
At some point in the future, we may expand EB4T to other devices, but for now we’re satisfied that the Kindle is the e-reader that offers the best set of capabilities for our soldiers, at the best price. It is also important for us as an all-volunteer organization to do everything we can to drive economies of scale, and standardizing on a specific e-reader device helps us streamline our logistics and maximize the efficiency of our internal operations.

Why does Kindles for Troops (K4T) not accept the original Kindle or Kindle DX?
The original Kindle and the Kindle DX are both great reading devices, however it is important for us to do everything we can to drive economies of scale, and supporting fewer models greatly simplifies our distribution operations.

Can I include a coupon, promotion, or other donation with my Kindle for Troops (K4T) donation?
No. Although we understand businesses and individuals may for good reasons want to promote themselves or include other items with their K4T donation that would benefit our military members, we do not accept or pass-along any third-party items to our sponsored units that fall outside the scope of our K4T program.

Does E-Books for Troops have 501(c)(3) status?
Yes. We were approved as a 501(c)(3) organization on August 10, 2010.
Is my donation tax deductible?
Yes. Given we are an approved 501(c)(3) organization, your donations are tax-deductible.
What is your address and EIN?
The E-Books for Troops mailing address is:
E-Books for Troops, Inc.

Do you have a program for authors to donate their e-book content to troops deployed overseas?
No. EB4T distributes e-reading devices and e-book gift certificates to our sponsored units, however we do not pre-load e-books on the Kindles we distribute. There are other organizations such as Operation E-Book Drop and E-Books for Soldiers that work with authors and publishers to provide free and/or discounted e-books to servicemen and women who are deployed overseas. If you have content that you would like to distribute to members of the military, we would encourage you to contact these organizations directly.
I’d like to help. What can I do?
