Len and I could not be happier with the response we have received over the last week for E-Books for Troops, and, in particular, the messages from the members of our military and their families who have expressed their support for our program. It has totally reinforced to us the importance of what we are building with this organization. There was one message we received this weekend that really hit home for both of us.
On Friday, we received an e-mail from Chaplain (CPT) Rudy Stevens, who is currently deployed in Afghanistan as part of Task Force Lighthorse, HHT, 3-17 CAV, in which he expressed his support for E-Books for Troops and also indicated he used his Kindle while he was deployed. I asked Chaplain Stevens if he would share some thoughts on why he thought e-book readers were a great solution for our soldiers. His reply:
E-books expand and expedite my reading selection here in Afghanistan. Instead of hauling and keeping lots of books over here, I simply carry them all on my e-book. Also, if there is a book I want to read over here, I don’t have to wait. With one click, I am able to download a book instead of waiting for it to be shipped. Finally, e-books are more economical for us over here. It’s cheaper to send an e-book than it is to send a regular book. I know soldiers, including myself, who love their e-books. You will not go wrong by sending e-books.
This quote really says it all, and why we believe in what we are building with E-Books for Troops. Chaplain Stevens also provided us with this terrific picture of him with his Kindle during his deployment. Thank you Chaplain Stevens for your support!
We are planning to feature the experiences of other soldiers with their e-books readers as part of this blog, so if you have a quote, picture, or story to share, please contact us or send us an e-mail at info (at) ebooksfortroops.org.

I’ve been in search of a way to become an email pen pal with someone in the military.
Do you folks know how I can do this? Branch of service doesn’t matter.
Just thought I could help by visiting with someone that would
enjoy emails.
Thank you!
Sandi, Sorry for the belated reply. Unfortunately I do not know of a resource for this, but you might want to check with the USO or just research via Google. Thanks again for stopping by and your support. –Ken
